Public Climbing Areas in Ohio

1. Hocking State Forest
Southeast of Logan in Hocking County, (614)595-3341 or (614) 596-5781. Use the parking area off Big Pine Road, cross the road, find the green bridge and hike up the hill. Seasonal chemical toilets. Please register to show area is used.
2. Lake Vesuvius National Recreation Area
North of Ironton in Lawrence County, Ellisonville. (614) 532-0151. Cliff is along lake and by baseball diamond in Furnace shelter area.
3. John Bryan State Park
East of Yellow Springs. (513) 767-1274. All climbers MUST register before climbing. Register at the Ranger Station and follow the directions in the climbers’s display case. No lead climbing.
4. Whipp’s Ledges–Hinckley
A permit system is in place. Request a permit in advance. Call the Cleveland Metroparks Vistor Service Division at (216) 351-6300. Climbers must have homeowners or other liability insurance of $300,000.
5. Eden Park “Old Reservoir Wall”
950 Eden Park Drive, Cincinnati, Ohio 45202. A permit must be obtained in advance. Call the Cincinnati Board of Commissioners at (513) 352-4080.
6. Paint Creek Lake
Located at Paint Creek Lake between Hillsboro and Chillicothe along USS 50. Under the supervision of US Army Corps of Engineers. No lead climbing.
